Each year hundreds of thousands of Africans die tragically from AIDS contracted from tainted blood transfusions. Out of the 6 million transfusions per year in Sub-Saharan Africa, less than 50% are properly screened for HIV and other infectious diseases. The result is that many of those receiving blood transfusions contract HIV, with women and children making up the majority of those becoming infected.
